Plus Ca Change
Apr. 9th, 2006 06:39 pmThe weekend has been a mixture of relaxation and minor tasks. The usual - shopping, errands, laundry etc - plus putting up the new blinds in the dancehall downstairs (the only 'remodel' item on the list this week).
While Bill was teaching his C1 group downstairs today, I was busy fighting with Wake On LAN. I'd wanted for some time to set up a system so that the server (housed downstairs) did not have to sit there 16 hours a day doing nothing but make noises and burn electricity. This project had never made it to the top of the list, but when a server glitch required me to lug it upstairs anyway, I figured it was time to get this set up. The server is now set to go off at 4am (after backups have run) and only come on again if we call it, via our various desktops and laptops. Success! Well, I think it's successful - we'll see what actually happens tomorrow.
I spent yesterday evening working on the Bob Brundage transcripts - I've transferred the first two tapes to MP3 format, and I've just started OCR'ing the paper transcripts. It's going to be a lot of long and tedious work, and while I'm happy to help out getting a couple of test cases done, I'm glad it's NOT going to be me doing all the conversion/data entry work. Tape transcription for those interviews with no paper transcription already is going to be quite a task.
Time to get ready for Hairspray! This fabulous show is my weekend treat to me.
Today was made possible by the generous help of some kick-ass prescription drugs I keep for especially bad headache days. Right now I'm sailing! Returning to earth (and headache) later tonight.
