Ford still under attack
Aug. 9th, 2006 09:54 pmPoor Ford. They just want to sell cars. Oh yes, and they happen to have anti-discrimination rules for their company. And did I mention they want to sell cars? So they advertise in various magazines including The Advocate and OUT. Which does not sit well with the fundamentalists, like the mis-named "American Family Association". (Not American, not Family).
Today the AFA published a letter sent to Ford by a homophobic organization representing Ford dealers in Texas. The quandry - if you don't buy from these dealers, that damages Ford. The answer - buy out of state. Of course, this only applies to Texans, and I doubt there are many of those reading my blog.
Ford has reversed direction twice on this issue - I deeply admire the company for sticking to its all-inclusive policies despite this well orchestrated effor to damage both its reputation and its sales.
I'll be dropping Ford another letter of support, in some attempt to redress the balance. It's little enough, but in practice, what else can we do to fight this type of prejudice?
