Nov. 9th, 2008 07:13 pmI feel guilty. We're in the middle of a huge remodel, and I feel that my every waking moment and every action should be dedicated to furthering the project. So when we take a weekend off as we did this week, I feel bad about it. Friday night was a TV night, when we caught up with the various TV series we both enjoy, including Ugly Betty and Grey's Anatomy. We've recently discovered that ABC's full screen streaming technology is awesome - full motion, no jerkiness, HD quality. We're not recording ABC shows on the TiVo any more, because we don't have an HD recorder. The Internet stream from ABC beats that hands down.
Yesterday, we went to see a matinee showing of a movie (at $7, I noted that the matinee cost is now equivalent to the full price that I was paying 10 years ago). The movie was cute and took our minds off things for a while. Then a walk down town for lunch at a diner. It was a pleasant day.
Today we got up late, pottered around doing chores (washing, ironing, etc) and then headed out for a Burger King lunch followed by a trip to Mervyn's - our local outlet is closing down. Turns out the 'massive savings' weren't massive at all. But still we've always enjoyed their low prices, so we both purchased a few items for old time's sake. The store will close December 31st, or whenever the stock is gone - long before that date I think. Then it was off for another adventure - our very first visit to Kohl's - they opened a store here a year ago, but it's right on the edge of town, and outside the 10 minute rule; we never drive more than 10 minutes from the house for ANYTHING. Well, we made an exception, and discovered (a) Kohl's, like most department stores has a permanent sale going on; and (b) their 'reduced' prices match almost exactly those of Mervyn's for mens wear. So I guess in future I'll be shopping there.
Home again, I set about cooking some pasta and sausage for dinner. This is the first outing for the propane camping stove as the means for cooking our evening meal since we moved downstairs. It worked well, and the meal was pronounced a success. It's now 7pm and we have no plans or commitments. I feel much more rested than I have for a couple of weeks, and actually slept pretty well last night.
Tomorrow is another day with the general contractor; there is a list of small items that need attention, plus we are owed an explanation of why there is a large hole in the downstairs bathroom ceiling - NOT an area being remodelled. Some minor electrical adjustments are needed, the plumber apparently lost his mind after the plumbing failed an inspection and completely removed, rather than fixing, the waste pipe for the Jacuzzi tub... Other than that, there is every chance the drywall will start this week. By next weekend, I'm hoping we'll actually have a ceiling in each room upstairs!
