Because the 2010 Next Big Thing is coming from WiTricity A technology developed at MIT is expecting to produce Really Useful Devices by the end of next year. Coils will be built in between studs in houses - no more regular electrical wiring/outlets. No cords. Just resonant magnetic induction. The first part of this video talks about this transmission system - WiTricity can transmit usable current - up to 3kw - across a living room. (The other items in the video are near-field inductive devices - essentially, the device needs to be near the transmitting coil. Still cool though!):
