Yes, it's followers of that wonderful Christian church, at it again. Unable to get us sentenced to internment camps here in the US, and with their 'conversion' processes to make gay men straight discredited by all respected scientific bodies, it appears three of these people traveled to Uganda last year to incite hatred against gay men.
Scott Lively, Caleb Lee Brundidge, and Don Schmierer are the scum who helped orchestrate the Anti-Homosexuality Bill of 2009 in Uganda. Among other things, these three told packed crowds of evangelists that “the gay movement is an evil institution” whose goal is “to defeat marriage-based society and replace it with a culture of sexual promiscuity.” They claimed that they can make gay people straight, and that gay men "sodomize teenage boys". Their avowed mission: "“mobilizing the body of Christ to minister grace and truth to a world impacted by homosexuality” - in other words, encourage the authorities to hunt us down and kill us .
The Christian church has throughout the centuries inflicted misery on its followers, using torture, brutal taxation, and the ultimate threat of hell-fire and damnation to build a massive world-wide fortune and a political power-base. I hope no right-thinking person believes those in power in these organizations has any belief in some supreme power. They are FAR more invested in power on earth. They manipulate and deceive in order to control. And one of the best methods to do that is to have a section of society to hate with all your might. Gays, Jews, Blacks - all groups targeted in just the last 100 years by Christian churches.
While in theory our government is separated from the church, in practical terms they are controlled by it. The church can direct its followers to vote out politicians; to march on Washington, to undermine justice and fairness in society all in the name of their 'god'. Their power to influence policy far exceeds the intentions of the founding fathers, who had seen the chaos the Roman Catholic and Protestant influences in Europe had wrought.
Until we can end the power of the church in this country, there will be no meaningful progress on human rights.
