The Perils of DVD creation...
Jan. 9th, 2011 02:34 pmWell, it isn't a good day for me with software - DVD creation in particular. Always been a bit mysterious, but applications usually take care of the technical aspects.
I finished a project in Adobe Premiere (hurrah for me!). I 'burned' it to a DVD Folder (Adobe terminology I think). From there I can run the production on my computer. So the next step was to have Premiere burn it to a real DVD. All was well to 96%, at which point, Premiere quit with an error saying the device was not the right type. Hmm... I've burned many DVDs on this machine, so I know the device is OK - and why wait an hour (to 96%) before telling me?
The Abobe message boards suggested the error related to stop markers. Only I don't have any - none that I can see, and I certainly didn't add any.
I tried my HP-supplied software, which burned a DVD using the DVD folder. But the DVD doesn't play on anything.
I downloaded the (open source) InfraRecorder, and burned the DVD Folder that way. This time, it plays - using the HP-supplied DVD player software. Tried the disk on another PC - doesn't play. Tried it in a DVD Player - unrecognized disk.
Well, time's up! I can't spend more time on it, so for the purposes of my project, I'll have to play it from my laptop, using the DVD folder files. I wanted to distribute the DVD to the team members, but that will have to wait until I can figure out how to get Adobe to use my DVD player.
Le sigh...
