Well, insofar as you can count the Miss USA pageant as the real world. But these 50 women actually do represent the bizarre views of a large minority in this country. The video (below) is a compilation of their responses to the question "Should evolution be taught in school".

[Error: unknown template video]

The sad part about this video is that their views mirror the teaching habits of our high school biology teachers. In a Penn State University survey, 13% of biology teachers declined to teach evolution; and a large number preferred creationism. http://live.psu.edu/story/51023

There is nothing worse than a bad education. The students subjected to this cant will, unless they can correct this deficiency by their own research, be laughed at in an serious life-sciences profession. In the scientific community, you simply cannot ignore the prevalent theories in your field (and yes, I accept that evolution is theoretical, but with a huge amount of supporting evidence behind it).

The worst part of this? There is no uproar, no reaction from students, other teachers, parents, or government. They are all complicit by their silence in allowing this bizarre practice to continue.
