No surprises in the 'super-congress'
Aug. 10th, 2011 12:36 pmUnfortunately. Nine of the 12 members have now been announced, and Pelosi's picks are unlikely to be anything other than hardline on no cuts to social security or medicare, so I think we now have a good idea of the balance of this committee. All six republicans will be hardline on no tax or revenue increases, and will demand cuts and caps to spending as the only way to reduce debt.
But it seems that Reid included a ringer in his pick of Democratic Senators: Max Baucus. Baucus is something of a DINO (Democrat in name only). He single-handedly blocked any consideration of a single payer system in the healthcare debate. He received massive contributions from healthcare insurers during the healthcare debate. My prediction is that he will be the swing vote, both on resisting tax increases, and on allowing major cuts to medicare and social security.
So why do I say 'no surprises'? Once again, Reid proves himself to be an unworthy leader of the Senate; just as I expected.
