The last couple of days I've been checking hotels in Boston. We wanted something near the airport for an unavoidable overnight stay between flights, and Embassy Suites seemed the best deal. Priceline and Southwest's own hotel booking page both gave us the same rate, and the same restrictions - pay now, no refund. Hotels.com doesn't even list the hotel, so I assume they don't have a deal with that chain.
Still not liking the 'pay now, no refund' concept, I decided to check the Embassy Suites hotel site directly. Not only could I get the exact same room more cheaply (by applying a AAA discount) but there were no cancellation fees, up to 24 hours before arrival.
Money saved, more flexibility - what's not to like?
I guess the moral of the story is that aggregators have to make money somewhere!
