On email clients
Dec. 5th, 2011 10:15 amI was an Outlook user for years, but finally, last year, I decided to switch to Thunderbird. Generally, I've enjoyed using it, although there are some oddities in configuration. It works nicely for a single email account, but configuring separate servers for a variety of accounts (I use five regularly) is convoluted. However, having gotten it working, it's been fine.
Unfortunately, just like Firefox, they seem to have decided to rev the product on a regular basis, and for the past few versions, I've been having problems where it won't connect, or it won't send, or it won't save - all on different accounts, and in an unpredictable fashion.
Thunderbird is 'community' supported, but appeals to message boards etc haven't been much help. And frequently the developers and others take the Microsoft approach - uninstall/reinstall and all will be well. The other frequently offered 'solution' is to compact the mail box.
So... I'm beginning to think I need to find a more stable, usable client. I don't really want to go back to Outlook, though I am used to its quirks, and it has integration with the Google Calendar, which is what I use for my business. (Haven't been able to integrate that with Thunderbird). Also, the contact management in Outlook is better than in Thunderbird.
Anyone have suggestions for a better email client, preferably with Google Calendar integration? And free of course! LOL
