The Internet, before Al invented it.
Sep. 4th, 2007 12:44 pmThe Internet evolved from ArpaNet. Sponsored by the US government; the Rand corporation was tasked with developing a network that could withstand a nuclear blast! The first application was email. I first saw a web browser (Mosaic) in 1993. That's just 14 years ago! At the time, there were 15 million people worldwide using the Internet; today, the estimate is 1.3 billion.
I was amused to find this clip, from a 1993 newscast. The web isn't mentioned - the NCSA had barely released Mosaic at that point. It is astounding that we have moved so far (and not necessarily wisely) in the development of Internet applications in this short period of time.
