Separation of what and what?
Jul. 1st, 2008 04:57 pm"Obama visited a community ministry in a conservative region of the election battleground state of Ohio to unveil a plan to reinvigorate faith-based community programs first pioneered by President George W. Bush. The Illinois senator, who will face Republican John McCain in November's presidential election, said he would put more money and emphasis on strengthening the link between government and community faith programs. "
One of the most offensive things Bush did when he took office was the creation of his 'faith based initiative' which had (and I assume still has) an office in the Whitehouse. I had expectations of that leaving the Whitehouse with Bush in January; but this report suggests Sen. Obama may actually be considering its retention and maybe even expansion. Let us hope that is not the case. I want no more of my tax dollars going to support charities that require prayer meetings or evangelism before they will support those in need. I would encourage Sen Obama to work with all non-profits to improve the work they do; but those non-profits that benefit from federal funding must undertake not to preach, or to use their religious tenets to determine the recipients of their aid.
