Which started off with lazing in bed too late, then getting up and watching TV until nearly lunchtime! Not my usual style, but sometimes you just gotta do it.

We left the house at 1:45 to get over to the Halloween afternoon square dance called by Jerry Junk. Jerry is an out of town (straight) caller, who was here to call a series of dances. Very nice guy, a little flustered by calling for a gay group where partners kept switching, sexes kept changing, and half the group were in costumes! He did a very good job overall, and no-one cared when head ladies or some other combo were switched at the end of a sequence. It didn't help his sanity much when we had six couples for advanced, so two couples were tagging in to the square. I think he enjoyed himself; we enjoyed his calling. At one point he said "I've been waiting for a group like this to try this sequence" - implying I think, that our abilities and energy were higher than some of the groups he calls for regularly.

After the dance, it was off for a trip to a newish indoor flea market that opened in an old supermarket building. It was very sad, and our visit lasted just a few minutes. Lots of very cheap knock-off clothing, many empty stalls, and a complete lack of any interesting merchandise.

We opted then to drive out to the foot hills - we wanted to avoid going home where the bus loads of kids they ship in to our older (and kid-deprived) neighborhood were undoubtedly waiting for a hand-out of free candy. It was a very pleasant drive. Initially Bill was in charge of our route, then we let Jack take over the navigation, and we succeeded in finding a small park that Bill had never visited before. (Jack is our GPS).

After that, off to the Owl Cafe , an older diner, for a quick but filling evening meal, then on to downtown Albuquerque. We had time for a short visit to the newly-remodeled La Posada hotel (now the Andaluz. The remodel has retained many of the original features, though it is now quite hi-tech, with computer screens everywhere. The old reception area is gone, and the new 'front desk' is actually a room that they discovered during the remodel. It was apparently an old barber's shop that was boarded up at some time.

Our visit was short, but at least two staff members came up to welcome us, and others were standing in corridors watiing for something to happen. It didn't seem to be very busy. One guy offered to show us a couple of the bedrooms! But we certainly didn't have time for that :-)

On to our final desitination of the evening; a black box theater called the Filling Station - which was obviously a filling station in a previous life. The theater comfortably held about 50 people. We very much enjoyed the show - Dracula, the Musical. It was hilarious. Played as a Victorian melodrama with music, the cast did an outstanding job. I haven't laughed that hard in ages.

And so to bed.
